{"id":1829,"date":"2018-09-25T22:34:37","date_gmt":"2018-09-26T05:34:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jessegilbert.net\/?p=1829"},"modified":"2018-09-26T23:15:42","modified_gmt":"2018-09-27T06:15:42","slug":"mars-festival-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jessegilbert.net\/cms\/1829\/mars-festival-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Mars Festival 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jesse will create two immersive performances with Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Quartetto Fantastico for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.festivalmars.com\/?event=m-a-r-s-los-angeles-2018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mars Festival<\/a>, October 6th &amp; 7th, 2018.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/festivalmarsla.brownpapertickets.com\/\">OCT. 6 MULTIVERSE (PART I)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Vortex<br \/>\n2341 East Olympic Blvd<br \/>\nLos Angeles, CA 90021<\/p>\n<p>With JESSE GILBERT and MIGUEL ATWOOD-FERGUSON<\/p>\n<p>Atwood-Ferguson and Gilbert present an evening of music and image, featuring musical compositions and improvisations within an immersive performance environment defined by panoramic projections of audio-reactive visuals that surrounds both audience and performers.\u00a0 Building upon years of ongoing creative dialogue, the duet explores works from classical repertoire as well as Atwood-Ferguson\u2019s original compositions for acoustic viola and electric violin, all fed in real-time to Gilbert\u2019s visual instrument, SpectralGL, which transforms sound into dynamic visual landscapes that are mapped back onto the performance space.\u00a0 The resulting perceptual feedback loop is designed to bring the audience on a journey of discovery along with the artists, transforming their experience from that of passive listeners to co-creators of experience, elucidating the mystery and power of music and image to inspire and suggest new realities and possibilities.<\/p>\n<p>(Door opens at 7pm. Show starts at 8pm)<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/festivalmarsla.brownpapertickets.com\/\">OCT. 7 MULTIVERSE (PART II)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Vortex<br \/>\n2341 East Olympic Blvd<br \/>\nLos Angeles, CA 90021<\/p>\n<p>With JESSE\u00a0GILBERT and QUARTETTO FANTASTICO<\/p>\n<p>Chris Woods \u2013\u00a0 violin<br \/>\nPaul Cartwright \u2013 violin<br \/>\nMiguel Atwood-Ferguson \u2013\u00a0 viola<br \/>\nPeter Jacobson \u2013 cello<\/p>\n<p>Atwood-Ferguson and Gilbert are joined by the members of Quartetto Fantastico, widening the circle of musical exploration through the power of a modern string quartet playing at the highest level of improvisation and modern composition.\u00a0 The string quartet will perform inside a cube of light, with translucent projections on four sides that will explore the intuitive and emotional connections between the musicians through a mix of live camera and abstract animation composed in real-time with SpectralGL.\u00a0 This immersive installation will allow audience members to explore the performance from any angle, transcending the traditional proscenium arrangement to create a completely personalized sound and visual experience.\u00a0 As the inner performance space is unfolded and echoed through the overlapping media landscape, a multiverse of individual perspectives can be explored, each containing a kernel of the musical moment as it reverberates across space and time.<\/p>\n<p>(Door opens at 7pm.
